Filtering phosphates out of your top-up water is incredibly important when wanting to maintain a healthy Swimming Pond. Phosphates are a primary nutrient that fuel algae growth, including unsightly blanketweed and green water. A Swimming Pond should rely on a careful biological, and if needed mechanical, balance. Low nutrient levels are essential to let your gravel filter and aquatic plants outcompete algae for food. Excess phosphates upset this balance, leading to more maintenance and less water clarity.
We will soon be stocking the Hanna Phosphate Checker with additional reagents. We would highly recommend using this product in addition to our Phosphate filter when topping up your Swimming Pond. This will ensure that phosphates are being removed adequately and provide you with an insight into when the media has expired in the filter. Even low levels of phosphates (above 0.035 mg/L) can trigger rapid algae blooms, especially in warm weather. These blooms can cloud the water, disrupt plant health, and spoil the swimming experience.
